Sebbene LNER e Lumo operino treni simili costruiti da Hitachi, l'esperienza a bordo è piuttosto diversa, come dettaglio di seguito.
Lumo
Lumo opera su un modello a basso costo (pensa a Ryanair su rotaie!). Con solo cinque servizi al giorno, la scelta è limitata. Ci sono limiti rigorosi sui bagagli (solo una valigia piccola e una media). Non sono ammessi oggetti ingombranti o biciclette.
Lumo offre solo posti in classe Standard, con 25 file per carrozza e solo due tavoli, quindi lo spazio per le gambe è limitato e le carrozze possono sembrare anguste.
LNER
I treni LNER da Londra a Edimburgo partono ogni 30 minuti, con 26 servizi al giorno.
LNER offre un'esperienza di viaggio più piacevole, con un massimo di 23 file di posti e otto tavoli per carrozza. L'operatore statale offre un limite di bagaglio più generoso (incluso le biciclette), oltre alla possibilità di passare alla Prima Classe.

Sia Lumo che LNER hanno Wi-Fi a bordo, anche se è piuttosto lento e ha una copertura irregolare. Va bene per la navigazione generale e lo streaming musicale, ma potresti avere difficoltà a fare streaming video. Ti consiglio di scaricare un po' di contenuto prima di partire!

Omio ha reso super facile prenotare i miei biglietti del treno da Londra a Edimburgo. Ho semplicemente scelto il mio orario di partenza e quanto flessibile volevo che fosse il mio biglietto, e poi il mio biglietto era pronto per partire. I biglietti di solito vengono messi in vendita 12 settimane prima, ma per alcune date puoi prenotare fino a 6 mesi prima. Lumo è spesso più economico di LNER, ma quelle tariffe basse si esauriscono rapidamente, quindi vale la pena prenotare in anticipo!

Consigli e raccomandazioni personali
- Per sfuggire alla folla a King's Cross, dirigiti al livello superiore, dove puoi trovare un ingresso al binario meno conosciuto.
- Arriva presto e rifornisciti di prelibatezze: la stazione di King's Cross ha una vasta selezione di negozi per acquistare cibo prima di viaggiare. Io vado sempre da Greggs per un rotolo di salsiccia o una torta di manzo!
- Le migliori viste sono sul lato destro, specialmente tra Newcastle ed Edimburgo. Fai attenzione al segnale di confine quando attraversi dall'Inghilterra in Scozia.
Conclusione
Viaggiare da Londra a Edimburgo in treno con Lumo potrebbe essere più economico e un po' più veloce rispetto a LNER, ma preferisco l'atmosfera e l'esperienza complessiva sui treni LNER.
